Summer Memories ... Autumn Possibilities! Upcoming events at Wildflower Funeral Concepts
Dear Friends,
Two weeks ago, I got away for four days of backpacking on the North Olympic Coast with my daughter. She and I have gone on at least one backpacking trip a summer since she was six years old.
This year was our thirteenth year. These few days each summer are the most cherished of the entire year. Together, we have explored windswept mountain ridges, glistening glaciers, alpine lakes, emerald rainforests, and remote rugged coastlines. Most of our trip this year was spent shrouded in thick coastal fog.
We found a deep peace sitting for hours watching waves roll in from the misty void. The fog gave an air of mystery and intrigue as we explored stacks and tidepools. We witnessed profound moments of life giving way to death which in turn nourished life. For a few days we were nature and we were family without the distractions of civilization. We both know how fortunate and privileged we are to have these experiences and are so grateful. As I was unpacking and cleaning sand out of gear, I was overcome with nostalgia for the nearly 20 trips we have been on together, and excitement for many more to come. Hopefully.
Now summer is giving way to autumn and I am reflecting on the past season at Wildflower with gratitude, while looking ahead with excitement!
This summer brought so many beautiful moments to Wildflower. Familiar faces and new friends coming to concerts, workshops and gatherings. We filled our little funeral home with music, laughter, stories, good food and spirits during Ferndale's Downtown Distilled Walk.
It's really happening! Wildflower is becoming more than a funeral home.
It's a place where people gather in times of loss, and in times of living. A place where life is celebrated, stories are shared, questions are explored, friendships are formed, and community grows.
As we move into autumn, I am excited about what's happening, both this month and in the months ahead. We hope you'll join us for one or more of our upcoming gatherings. Scroll down for the full details.
Upcoming events at Wildflower Funeral Concepts
First Friday with Swil Kanim & special guest Char Seawell Friday, September 4, 7-8:30PM - Free Admission!
We're especially excited to welcome acclaimed singer/songwriter Char Seawell to join Swil Kanim for this month's First Friday. Come spend an evening with us filled with music, storytelling, laughter and community.
We'll also continue our monthly Death: Conversations Around The Table and Bereavement Loss Support Group, creating space for meaningful conversation, connection and support.Speaking of which - for those of you who've attended our Death: Conversations Around The Table gatherings, our wonderful facilitators at Deeper Currents are conducting a six session workshop "Learning To Tend Grief" - both online and in person at Full Bloom Sanctuary. Then, on Monday, September 21st from 6:30 to 8pm I will be leading a workshop exploring all of the different methods of disposition available in Washington at Death Matters (formerly Death Cafe). This month, Death Matters meets in the Great Hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2117 Walnut St., Bellingham..

October and beyond!
October is already shaping up to be a wonderful month at Wildflower.
For October's First Friday, storyteller, Kelsey Maloney will be joining Swil Kanim for what's sure to be an unforgettable evening.We're also looking forward to a special film screening (to be announced soon) at the Doctober Film Festival at the Pickford Cinema in Bellingham, and to the return of the Before I Die Festival October 31st & November 1st. Because last year's response was so wonderful, the second annual Before I Die Festival is moving to a larger location.
Now, before I get too far ahead of myself, I want to say thank you.
Thank you for showing up. Thank you for bringing your music, your stories, your laughter, your questions, your vulnerability and your beautiful humanity through our doors. Thank you for turning to us in your hardest moments, for trusting us with your precious beloveds and your tender hearts. Thank you for helping turn this little funeral home into something much bigger.
I am deeply grateful for every one of you.
May the changing season bring you beauty, possibility, and plenty of reasons to gather with the people you love. We hope to see you at Wildflower soon for something joyful.

Bereavement Loss Support Group

A place for healing through connection.
Facilitated by grief counselor Lisa Yeager, LICSW, this drop-in support group is open to anyone experiencing grief and loss following the death of a loved one. Open to all.
